JC's Cigar Travels 2009
September 2009
September 9th - MAN CAVE Cigar Lounge - Horizon Ridge & Seven Hills in Henderson. Brand new cigar store and lounge with a beautiful interior.
August 2009
August 25th - I Celebrated my birthday at Benny's Bullpen Sports Bar & Cigar Lounge inside Binion's Casino downtown. I decided to smoke a Fuente Opus X BBMF that I had been saving for about 4 years. The cigar was very good but not great. I want to thank Stinky, Carlos, Allon, Shawn, Ray, Dane, Angelica, my brother Bob and everyone who helped me turn the big 6-0. Benny's Bullpen has a nice cigar lounge, it was a little warm there as they were having problems with their air-conditioning.
August 26th - Back at Benny's Bullpen with Shawn, Stephanie, Justin and Michael. It was Stephanie's birthday and Shawn's wife Ann, sent Shawn with a birthday cake that she baked. The cake was excellent and went well with the cigars and cocktails.
July 2009
July 9th - Martinis with the Mayor at Hemingways turned out to be a great event, the parking lot was packed and yes, the mayor was there for 2 hours and everyone had a great time.
Sad to hear that the Las Vegas Cigar Lounge has closed, I will miss that place.
June 2009
June 11th - Stinky VIP Cigar Event at Chicago Brewing Company - The best cigar event of the year so far. Hats off to Stinky on the great job he did of organizing this well attended event. I saw some cigar lovers that I hadn't seen in a few years. Lots of prizes were given away including cigars, gift certificates to various cigar shops around town and an autographed baseball by Yogi Berra compliments of John Conroy and Altadis USA.
June 6th - Las Vegash TV - Jerry from Stogie Review joined us as we recorded a new episode at the Las Vegas Cigar Lounge. While we were there I picked up a Nestor Miranda which turned out to be a fine cigar.
June 5th - CigarBox Xikar Cigar Launch - I was very interested in trying their new HC Cigars to see if they were up to the high quality associated with their cutters & lighters and I was not disappointed. Their Honduran cigars are available in 3 wrappers: Criollo, Habana and Connecticut. They burn nice & slow and (IMHO) have earned the right to be called a premium cigar. Also picked up the highly rated Casa Magna cigar which had a rich flavor.
June 3rd - Cubinican Cigars 1st Year Anniversary - We were treated to live music from Brad & Scott and their Blues band. They've added some new cigars to their Hatuey line that are awesome.
May 2009
May 30th - HARD ROCK HOTEL - You can cross the Hard Rock off your list of Cigar-Friendly places in Las Vegas. I was sitting in a bar smoking a cigar where other people were smoking cigarettes and was told cigars weren't allowed. Needless to say, I won't be going back there.
May 27th - Havana Club Drew Estate Event - lots of prizes were given away and everyone took advantage of the speical pricing on the Drew Estate products.
May 23rd - LasVegashTV episode recording was canecelled and will have to be re-scheduled. Among the things that were to be discussed were some new cigar shops opening up in Las Vegas, Cigar Shops that don't put prices on their cigars and a look at the nifty tool for the cigar smoking golfer called DIV Pro from John Yurek at No Joke.com.
May 21st - Las Vegas Cigar Lounge Montecristo Event - Everybody took advantage of the Buy 3 get one free deal on Altadis products and the Montecristo Classics they were giving away were pretty good. I won a Romeo Y Julieta coffee cup. Food was great, provided by Famous Dave's BBQ was great. Also, we were treated to a song sung by Alexandria and you can check her out at her website Alexandria Sings.com.
May 9th - CigarBox Ashton Event -Well attended and the Ashton Cigars were excellent. While at the Box, I found some nice gems in their large humidor. I really enjoyed the La Flor Dominicana #300 Oscuro. The cigar wrapper is so shiny it makes you wonder if someone shined them up.
Other cigars I'm enjoying these days are the CAO LX2's and H. Upmann Reserve Maduro. My favorite is the big Titan.
I recently visited Bad Habits downtown and Las Vegas Cuban Cigar Factory and found some brands I haven't seen around in quite some time. They actually have some old Lone Wolf and Eureka cigars in stock. Nice thing about cigars is that they only get better when they're sitting in the humidor.
Some of the cigar shops are starting Customer Rewards programs where the store tracks your purchases and eventually after you spend so much, you're entitled to some free cigars.
April 2009
April 7, 2009 - Las Vegas Cigar Lounge - I Want to thank everyone who joined me in smoking one for Cathy as we listened to "She Smiled Sweetly" by the Rolling Stones. For the past few months I've been my wife's caregiver as she finished her 12-year battle with cancer. The suffering is over and it's "Onward Thru The Fog" as I get on with my life. February 2009 February 7th - Phil's Cigars - We recorded our latest episode of LasvegashTV. Justin & I sampled the Trinidad Havana Reserve that was a mild smoke, the draw was a bit tight. In my opinion it was the best domestic Trinidad I've ever tried. While I was there, I noticed former Los Angeles Dodger Pitcher, Orel Hershiser was in the store.
I tried the new Arganese Cugine ..not bad on the mild side, I tried a Maduro and Natural and while I'm partial to the maduro, I did like the natural better. Not sure what the price will be, if it's over $10 then I wouldn't bother.
I visited Pheasant's Cigars on West Sahara, I hadn't been there for a few years and it was a good visit. I found their humidor to be unque. Besides the brands you'll find in other stores they also have brands that I haven't seen in our local shops, and you can enjoy the cigars you purchase in their comfortable lounge with a large flat screen TV.
I also visited the Las Vegas Cigar Lounge and picked up some CAO LX2 cigars that I've found to be a great smoke. January 2009 January 28th - Las Vegas Cigar Lounge has announced a new feature at their store to fill the void of no Monday Night Football games. They're having Monday Movie Nights with complimentary popcorn & soft drinks. Film starts at 7pm and they will be kicking it off this Monday night with Scarface starring Al Pacino.
January 15th - COLIBRI Closes - Well, here's another reason not to buy an overpriced Colibri lighter. I wonder if that means no more lifetime guarantee on their lighters. At their headquarters in Providence, RI, their employees arrived for work and the investment group that bought Colibri closed the doors. It seems they may have lost their line of credit which would make it impossible for them to do business. Rumors have it that their inventory has already been secured for liquidation.
January 1st - Started out the new year with a Habana Bolivar Belicosa that I had been saving for a couple of years. Not sure what was more disappointing, the mediocre Cuban cigar or the fireworks on the Las Vegas strip.
Since last November I've been in a situation that requires me to stay at home which limits my availability to attend most of the cigar events.

| As a cigar enthusiast, I was impressed with Dr. Tony Hyman's National Cigar Museum. There's a lot of Cigar nostalgia with pictures of old boxes dating back to the 19th century. |
